th Annual Technical Convention on Broadband Wireless Technology
Annual
Technical Convention (ATC) of the Institution will be held at
Ahmedabad during September 25-26, 2004 on Broadband Wireless Technologies.
The topics of the four technical sessions will be Broadband Wireless
through existing Technologies, Broadband Access through Satellite
based Systems, Next Generation Technology for Broadband Access
and Regulatory Issues including Spectrum Management for Wireless
Broadband.
Newly
Elected Council Members of IETE
The
following are elected to the Council as members for the year 2004-2007.
Dr
R P Bajpai (F050530L) obtained his MSc (Physics) with
specialization in Electronics. Subsequently, he did PhD from IIT,
Delhi in Solid State Physics and DSc from Hokkaido University,
Japan. Presently he is Director, CSIO, Chandigarh. He has published
two books and 170 Research papers in national and international
journals and filed 20 patents. He has won many awards some of
them are: CSIR National Technology Award 2002, Punjab Ratan, National
Academy of Science, India Award 1998, Wistex Foundation International
Award- 1994 etc. Dr Bajpai is a member of many National/ International
Scientific Societies and Committees and has been Visiting Professor
in International Universities. He has been Vice-President and
Chairman- Board of Research IETE and Chairman IETE Chandigarh
Centre. Dr Bajpai has been actively associated in IETE activities
and has contributed to the Institution’s overall growth.
Shri
R K Gupta (F048346),
is presently Engineer-in-Chief of Doordarshan and responsible
for overall Planning, System design and development besides operation
and maintenance of the entire Doordarshan network. He has held
many key positions in AIR and Doordarshan for more than 3 decades
and participated in several international conferences. He has
been Chairman of National Working Group 6 and Vice Chairman of
Technical Committee of ABU. Shri Gupta was Chairman of Panel of
judges for ABU. He has won Engineering Excellence Award for the
year 2003. He was awarded the most prestigious “Eminent
Engineer award” by the Institution of Engineers. He is IETE
Council

Member
since 2002. Shri Gupta is a Fellow of IE (I) and Past President
of Broadcast Engineering Society (India).
Maj
Gen K B Jhaldiyal, AVSM (Retd) (F060923L), a science
graduate from Allahabad University, BE from University of Roorkee
and M Tech from IIT, Bombay. He served Indian Army with distinction
for 35 years and made special contributions towards engineering
support for guided missiles, tank electronics, communication systems
and HRD. He was awarded AVSM by the President of India for his
distinguished services. Maj Gen Jhaldiyal served IETE as Secretary
General for a record period of seven years (1996-2003) and implemented
effective revenue generating easures. He has been instrumental
in creating infrastructure and buildings at 20 Centres resulting
in record all round growth of IETE. He was responsible for smooth
conduct of Golden Jubilee celebrations of IETE and successful
projection of Institution at national level.
Lt
Gen Davinder Kumar, VSM & BAR (F062931L), is presently
the Signal Officer-in- Chief at Army Headquarters. He is well
known for his expertise in designing and implementing communication
and IT projects for the government and the Army. He was selected
by the Prime Minister to develop these aspects in the North East
and Madhya Pradesh. He has planned and executed several such tactical
and strategic projects for the Defence Forces. The President and
the Prime Minister have acknowledged his contributions, and he
has been conferred National Level Awards by them. He has been
responsible for the spread of IT in the Army in a major way.
Shri
S Narayana (F026368L), is MTech in Electronics and Communication
Engineering. He is presently Dy Director in NGRI Hyderabad. Shri
Narayana started his career in Defence R&D Organization. Subsequently,
he joined NGRI and has been
responsible for designing several geophysical instruments, which
have been produced commercially. He is recipient of many prestigious
awards, for his contribution to the field of Electronics and Instrumentation.
He served IETE Hyderabad Centre in various capacities including
as chairman for two terms. He also served IETE as Council Member
for two terms and was its Vice President and Chairman, MLCC. He
has contributed immensely towards the growth of local / sub-centres,
examination reforms, membership growth, students’ interactive
forums and zonal coordination activities of IETE.
